Volunteers peel apples to make pies for the Apple Festival

Volunteers hand peel apples to make thousands of homemade apple pies. Click here and here for more photos.

The food at the Apple Festival is homemade and delicious. From 7 a.m. till 1 p.m., a kitchen full of volunteers, most of them from the Hickory Lions and Lioness Clubs, serve a delicious hearty breakfast — pancakes, eggs, sausages, juice, and coffee —at the fire hall. From 10 a.m. till 6 p.m., booths offer lots of tasty options. Sample the chicken cooked over an open fire or homemade bean soup with fresh bread baked in a brick oven, or try the festival favorites below:
